Sewing a Pillow Sham

My first attempt at a pillow sham

Sewing A Pillow Sham:

Check out MadeEveryDay for Dana's excellent instructional video: Tutorial

Materials:
- about 1 yard of fabric
- a sewing machine
- scissors
- pins
- patience

Steps:
1: Measure out your 3 peices.
If your pillow is 16X16, then you need about 17 inches X 17 inches for your first block, and the other two pieces should each be 9X17. This gives you one inch of space for your seam allowance, your hem, and your overlap like you can see in the picture above, where you slip in the pillow.

2: Flip the two 9" X 17" pieces so that the wrong side is facing up. Fold the edge over about 1/2" (in red in the image below) and sew it down.

3: Now pin the back piece and the front pieces together with the good sides facing each other. The 2 back pieces should be overlapping about 1 inch. Now sew around the whole square about 1/2" away from the edge. Flip it over and insert your pillow! You're finished! Enjoy your new pillow sham.
